Be sure to participate in and/or watch the 2016 Saline Community Fair Parade Tuesday evening, beginning at 6:30 p.m. Prior to the parade the Boys and Girls Pet Show and Bicycle Decorating contest will be held at Mill Pond Park beginning at 5 p.m. and the parade will line up there. Then take in the Vintage Baseball Game at Henne Field as the parade concludes there.
The white exhibit building and barns at the Washtenaw Farm Council Grounds, 5055 Ann Arbor Saline Road, Ann Arbor, were full of action on Monday as folks of all ages entered everything from vegetables to photos, collections to arts and crafts and the ever popular antiques and needlework. All entries must be in place by 1 p.m. Tuesday and the non-livestock entries will all be judged Tuesday afternoon.
The fair officially opens on Wednesday, August 31 and starts off with the judging of all animals at various times. The hog show is at 10 a.m., the goat show is at noon, followed by the steer and feeder calf show at 1 p.m. and the lamb show at 7 p.m. Some fair-goers will head straight to the open show arena to watch animal judging while others will head back to the track. The Farmstock Cement Slab Tractor Pull will take place on the track in front of the grandstand beginning at 9 a.m. and continuing throughout the day until all tractors have pulled. The Miss Saline Contest begins at 8 p.m. See who the 2015 Miss Saline, Sara Foley, crowns as her successor.
There are many other activities taking place throughout the week. In addition to exhibits, inside and outside displays and animals, the Small Animal Barn will be open all week and the Farmer for a Day activity area will provide fun for kids. Farmer John will provide several shows with animals daily from Thursday through Sunday. Well known Hypnotist, Richard Barker, will be performing two shows daily, after 3 p.m., on Friday through Sunday. Area businesses will have displays throughout the fairgrounds and there will be a variety of merchant and food booths. The Beer Barn will be open Thursday through Sunday evening. Elliott’s Amusements will provide the carnival rides throughout the week and Mega Ride Passes are available at Busch’s in Saline. On Wednesday the rides will open at 3 p.m.
