GALLERY: Twirling Twosome and 20-Year Director Honored at Recital
The Saline Twirlettes spun their their batons and flitted about the Saline Middle School stage at their spring recital Friday night.
Miss Michigan and Twirlette Alumn Haley Williams helped emcee the evening, which in many respects was a night of reflection for graduating seniors Amber Reed and Christine Cauley, who gave send off performances, and for the entire Twirlette troop, who shared their thoughts about their experience with director Susan Usher, who was honored for her 20 years of leadership.
Above all, of course, it was might of song, dance and baton-twirling, as the nationally reknowned group performed more than a dozen routines for the crowd.
The Saline Twirlettes, founded in the fall of 1968, have performed before 45,000 people annually at various community events including halftime performances at the University of Michigan and Eastern Michigan University. The Twirlettes have captured several national titles including the Jr. & Sr. Grand National Halftime Show Twirl and have twice earned the Beth Wilson Artistic Award.
