Career and Technical Education skills highlighted during CTE Month at WCC
The value of Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs will be highlighted through special events hosted at Washtenaw Community College (WCC) during CTE Month.
The college will offer a series of in-person and virtual events throughout February designed to showcase CTE pathways for current and prospective students. Activities kick off next week with informational tables around campus and a workshop exploring health care careers.
Additionally, area high school students in welding and automotive programs have been invited to compete in skills competitions hosted at WCC during CTE Month.
CTE offers students hands-on, real-world training for in-demand jobs in health care, business and information technology, advanced manufacturing, construction, transportation and many more career fields.
At secondary schools throughout the state in 2022-23, 108,874 students were enrolled in CTE programs, with an approximately 96% graduation rate, according to the Michigan Department of Education.
At the college level statewide in 2023-24, 122,062 students were enrolled in degree or certificate CTE programs at postsecondary institutions like WCC.
WCC offers more than 70 associate and certificate CTE programs, fueling the pipeline from a post-secondary education directly into the workforce.
CTE Month activities also include the Winter Career & Internship Fair from 4-6 p.m. Wednesday, February 12. The fair is open to the public and will feature more than 70 employers looking to fill jobs in a wide range of sectors.
Members of the public interested in learning more about Career and Technical Education programs at WCC or CTE Month events should visit the college’s CTE Month webpage.
