High School Boys’ Volleyball Celebrates 5th Year; Program Ranked Among State’s Best
Saline, MI— The Saline Boys’ Volleyball team is proud to announce the start of its fifth
season, marking another exciting chapter for one of the fastest-growing sports in
Michigan.
Led by Head Coach Dan Roughton, who brings more than 25 years of coaching
experience to the court, the program has quickly established itself as a statewide
contender. Over the past three seasons, the team has earned a winning record and is
currently ranked 3rd in the state — a remarkable achievement that reflects the
dedication of its student-athletes and coaching staff.
Coach Roughton’s leadership extends beyond the local program. Just a few weeks ago,
he served as an instructor at a coaching clinic hosted by the Michigan Interscholastic
Volleyball Coaches Association (MIVCA), where he shared his expertise with fellow
volleyball coaches from across the state.
This season is especially significant, as boys’ volleyball officially launches its first year
as a sanctioned Michigan high school athletic sport. Saline High School joins more than
100 other teams across the state in competing in this historic inaugural season,
signaling tremendous growth and opportunity for student-athletes statewide.
“We’re excited to be part of this milestone year for boys’ volleyball in Michigan,” said
Coach Roughton. “The growth of the sport has been incredible, and we’re looking
forward to another fun and competitive season.”
As one of the fastest-growing sports in the state, boys’ volleyball welcomes athletes of
all experience levels. No prior volleyball experience is necessary to join the team. The
sport emphasizes teamwork, athleticism, and strategy — and it offers opportunities that
can last a lifetime. Skills developed in indoor volleyball easily transfer to beach and
grass volleyball, opening doors for continued play well beyond high school.
The program encourages students interested in trying a new sport, staying active, and
being part of a supportive team environment to come out and get involved.
