All season long Saline JV Head Coach Jason Pickett has talked about every player being ready to be called upon to be “the next man up”. That was especially true Friday night against the Monroe Trojans.

With 1:43 left in the first quarter, the Saline starting five were sent to the bench and the next five took over. This group played until there was 3:13 left in the second quarter, when the starting five returned to the court. They had managed to turn a 12-11 deficit into a 17-12 lead.

Once they returned to the court, sophomore guards Braden LaRusso and Evan Merillat each sank a three-point shot to give Saline a 20-16 lead. The Hornets hung onto their four-point lead, heading into the locker room at the half leading 24-20.

The teams played evenly in the third quarter with each scoring sixteen. Sophomore forward Joshua Koch hit for four, LaRusso added three while Merillat and sophomore guard Romeo Love each added a three-pointer.

The fourth quarter, Love dominated the offensive play, scoring eleven of Saline’s thirteen points, to lead the Hornets to a 53-43 victory.

“I didn’t like where our mind was at the start of the game,” said JV Coach Jason Pickett, “we just weren’t in sync.”

Pickett continued, “I thought we picked it up in the second half and made some stops when we needed to.”

With the win, the JV record soars to 12-2. The team get back into action when they travel to Ann Arbor Huron on Tuesday. Game time is 5:30 p.m.
