Saline senior Davis Klein was the fastest swimmer in the 200-yard IM and the 100-yard backstroke as SEC Red preliminary rounds were held at Huron High School Friday. The finals take place starting at noon, Saturday.

Klein was the fastest of 30 swimmers racing in four heats in the IM, completing the race in 1:57.92 – 1.1 seconds faster than Pioneer’s Luis Miranda. In the backstroke, Klein beat Bedford’s Thomas Zoldowski by .01 seconds. Klein finished in 54.12 seconds.

He was the only Hornet to take first place in the preliminary rounds.

The meet began the 200-yard medley relay. Pioneer won the race in 1:38.11 - .04 seconds faster than Skyline. Klein, Joshua Brunty, Cooper Osgood and Cole Nelson finished sixth in 1:40.46.

Sophomore Ethan Saunders swam to a fourth place finish in the 200-yard freestyle, finishing in 1:46.01. Freshman Blake Coy was right behind him in fifth in 1:46.61.

Senior Joshua Mahaney was fourth in the 100-fly, finishing in 53.18. Senior Cole Nelson was seventh in 53.58

In the 100-yard freestyle, Saunders finished third in 48.11. Coy swam to a fourth place finish in the 500-yard freestyle, completing the race in 4:50.15.

Junior Matthew Hardt was in fourth place in the 100-yard breaststroke, completing the race in 1:01.49. Freshman Joshua Brunty was seventh in 1:01.82.

Josh Willwerth was eighth in the 50-yard freestyle, finishing in 22.44. Nelson was eighth in the 100-yard backstroke, finishing in 56.05 seconds.

Willwerth, Klein, Thomas Walsh and Coy swam the 400-yard freestyle relay in 3:23.37 to finish seventh.

In diving, Jason Heisler sits in fourth with a score of 231.90. Right behind Heisler is Joshua Birch, at 231.85. Cameron Corwin is in ninth place with 197.75 and Jacob Niethammer is in 14th at 155.30.
