All-SEC Bowlers Ohl, Graber and Martin Recognized for Performance

Awards were given out last week for members of the 2013 Saline High School Bowling team at Maplewood Lanes, the home bowling center for the team.  Coach Scott Stevens of the Saline Girls Varsity and coach John McMullen of the Saline Varsity Boys bowling team handed out the medals to the award recipients.

Sydney Ohl, second from the left, was awarded 1st team All Sec Red Division for finishing the season with an average of 184.  She has had an excellent career at Saline already and has her senior year coming up.  A returning captain, she finished 7th in the state at the state tournament in 2012 and is a strong leader for the girls team.  Sydney always bowls the toughest competitor from the other schools due to her strong performance and commitment to the program.  She also qualified for the Junior Gold National Tournament this past year.  Coach Stevens is very excited for her senior season coming up and they have all of their bowlers returning from last year’s team, so their future looks very strong.

Chris Graber, middle, was awarded 1st team All SEC Red Division for finishing the season with an average of 192.  He has been a 3 year varsity letter recipient with his senior season coming up.  A returning captain, he has had some strong career performances, including bowling 11 strikes in a row in a game and winning the Huron Valley Tournament Championship last year.  Chris enjoys working with his coaches and striving to improve his game continually.

Brandon Martin, second from the right, was awarded 1st team All SEC Red Division for finishing the season with an average of 186.  He had an excellent high school bowling career and had many high scores for the Hornet team.  A graduating senior, he will be sorely missed from the program and is planning on bowling in college while focusing on his future studies.  Brandon also qualified for the Junior Gold National Tournament this past year.  During qualifying, he rolled a 299, a career best, on very tough lane conditions.  He had the highest score during that tournament, which included many first year college bowlers from the tri-state area.

The bowlers have had success together, including winning the team portion of the Huron Valley Tournament along with Sean Flavin, a senior with the Saline Bowling team.  The 3 bowlers also won the Canton Shootout Tournament last March along with Neeko Robison who graduated from Saline in 2012 and finished 3rd in the state that season and Allison Morris, from Huron High School.

Congratulations to Sydney, Chris and Brandon. Any Saline High School students that are interested in bowling for the upcoming season, tryouts will be held at Maplewood Lanes on November 17th.
