Edith Paxton, 85, Was a Master Gardner and Learned Piano Later in Life

Edith A/ Paxton, of Saline, died Friday, August 9, 2013 at the age of 85 in the Memory Support Center at Brecon Village in Saline after a long illness.

She was the daughter of John and Amelia (Dezanet) Bonfardin, born June 5, 1928 in Caledonia, PA. She graduated top of her class from Bennett’s Valley High School and became a Registered Nurse while attending Columbia University where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing. Bonnie married Bruce R. Paxton March 17, 1962 at Rutgers Presbyterian Church in New York City, N.Y. and he preceded her in death. Bonnie spent eight years working as a Registered Nurse before becoming a full time homemaker to raise two sons and a daughter.

She contributed tireless hours volunteering at her children’s schools, was active in the Ann Arbor Women’s City Club, and participated in fundraising activities for the American Cancer Society. Bonnie enjoyed traveling and made stops around the globe covering Europe, the Middle East, Africa, Central America, India, Russia, and the Far East. Bonnie always worked for continual improvement taking lessons in gourmet cooking, drawing and quilting. She gained certification as a Master Gardener, took up playing the piano in mid-life, and enjoyed a low handicap and countless rounds of golf. Bonnie was caring and generous to all who knew her and will be greatly missed by her friends and family.

Bonnie is survived by her sons Reid (Cindy), Craig (Britt), daughter Krista, four grandchildren Rachel, Alec, Amelia, and Emma, and her brother Gelindo. Her parents John and Amelia, and her brother John, preceded her in death.

An open house remembrance celebrating Bonnie’s life will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Wednesday, August 28 at the Memory Support Center at Brecon Village in Saline. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Evangelical Homes of Michigan (evangelicalhomes.org) or to the Alzheimer’s Association (alz.org) and envelopes will be available at the Memory Support Center on the day of the service.
