Man Arrested at Gunpoint After Allegedly Threatening Bank Employees

A 37-year-old Tecumseh man was arrested at gunpoint by Saline Police June3 after allegedly making threatening phone calls to his Saline bank.

The man was angry with TCF bank because the pin numbers on his debit card were locked. The man told bank employees he needed $500 immediately because he’d been involved in a crash in Detroit, according to the report.  Upon learning he didn’t have access to the account, he allegedly threatened to bring a pistol to the bank and get the money “one way or the other.” When a bank employee informed him that threatening a bank employee was illegal, he called back and threatened to follow the employee back to her home, the report said.

Bank employees were escorted by police to their vehicle that evening. Police in plain clothes were at the bank again the next morning. At 9:20 a.m., the man arrived at the bank. At gunpoint, police ordered him from the vehicle. He was taken into custody for an arrest warrant out of Pittsfield Township.

27 Year Old Man Found Dead

The county Medical Examiner’s office is investigating the death of a 27-year-old Saline man. Police were dispatched to an unit at 475 North Maple Street for a possible overdose at 11:03 p.m., June 6. Police arrived and found a 65-year-old man performing CPR on the victim. Police and then Huron Valley Ambulance paramedics performed CPR on the man for more than 30minutes before he was pronounced dead. The man had just been released from a drug rehab program, according to the report.

The cause of death is under investigation.

Britton Man Arrested for Smoking and Driving

A 21-year-old Britton man was arrested on several counts shortly after midnight June 5 after police found what they suspect is marijuana in his vehicle.

Police stopped a Pontiac Grand Am for a malfunctioning brake light at Michigan Avenue and Monroe Street. Police could smell marijuana during the interview. The man told police he had smoked a few minutes ago, driving down the road, according to the report. After field sobriety tests he was arrested for operating under the influence of drugs. A plastic bag containing suspected marijuana was found in the vehicle, according to the report. Blood was drawn from the suspect at St. Joseph Hospital in Saline.  His vehicle was impounded. He was held in a cell at SPD until sobering up, according to the report.

Police Respond to Heroin Overdose

Emergency responders were dispatched to a Woodland Drive home June 6 for a possible overdose.

When police arrived paramedics were administering oxygen to a 20-year-old man who told police he shot heroin before coming home, according to the report. The man was transported to St. Joseph Hospital for treatment.

Wallet Stolen from Rec Center

A wallet belonging to a 77-year-old Milan man was stolen at the Saline Rec Center June 5. The man told police he’d locked the wallet in a locker. It was stolen between 11:30 a.m. and 12:40 p.m. By the wallet contained more than $200 in cash plus credit and debit cards. One of the credit cards was used at the Meijer gas station on Ann Arbor-Saline Road at 11:58 a.m.

Milan Man May Face Hit and Run Charge

Saline Police are seeking a warrant for the arrest of a 52-year-old Milan man who allegedly struck a utility pole and left the scene of the crash at 4:30 p.m. June 8.

Police noticed a street light pole leaning over Woodland Drive near Maple Road on the edge of a construction site. A construction manager told police that a landscape business truck backed into the pole and that they yelled at the driver to stop, but that he continued on. Police visited the landscaping business and talked to the driver of the truck. The man told police he notified his boss of the crash and that he assumed the Saline DPW office was closed and that he would report the incident at a later time.

Flowers Missing from Cemetery Grave

A 95-year-old Ypsilanti woman called police to report that a planter full of flowers had been stolen from her husband’s grave at Oakwood Cemetery the week after Memorial Day.
