Lady Hornets Win Jackson Invite

 

The Lady Hornets from Saline had another outstanding track and field meet Friday at the Jackson Invitational.

Saline finished first with 189 points, 63 more than second place East Kentwood. East Lansing was third with 66.

The Hornets were especially strong in the hurdles events, distance races, and relays.

In the 1600, Saline’s Elianna Shwayder (5:14.02, Lauren Green and Gloria Park finished 1-2-3.  Saline was equally as good in the 3200, where Abby Rentschler (10:58.72), Shwayder and Alyssa Cummings went 1-2-3.

The 800 was won by East Lansing’s Zoe Morse. Hannah Cummings (2:17.91), Gillian Walter and Haleigh Cummings finished second, third and fourth.

Quenee Dale won the 100 hurdles in 14.41. Natalie Wysocki was second in 15:74. Samantha Dicks was sixth.

Wysocki won the 300 hurdles in 46.70. Dicks was fourth.

In the 100 dash, Dale was second (12.35). Amanda Luurtsema and Alana Hollis finished fifth and sixth.

Alexa Ross was second in the 200 meters. Kristen Green was sixth in the 400.

Saline’s 4-by-100 relay team of Luurtsema, Ross, Hollis and Dale won their event by 1.9 seconds.  Lauren Green, Alyssa Cummings, Park and Rentschler won the 4-by-800 relay in 9:34.94.

The 4-by-400 relay team of Wysocki, Lauren Green, Ross and Kristen Green was second in 4:07.60.

Saline’s only victor in the field was Wendy Szuminski, who won pole vault by clearing 10 feet. Liz Gentile was third and Lillian Scheske was sixth. Szuminski was fourth in high jump.

Jackie Machildon was third in long jump (17-01).

Randi Bennett was third in shot put (36-09). Erin Connor was fourth.

Bennett was fourth in discus (118). Amelia Wittig was sixth (105.03).
