Saline Boys Second to East Kentwood at Jackson invite
East Kentwood edged Saline in boys track and field action at the Jackson Invitation Meet Friday.
East Kentwood finished with 131.5 points to Saline’s 127. Novi was third with 65.
Highlights of the day include Ryan Gauche’s victory in the 400, Andrew Kitto, Anthony Lamus and Grant Praschan going 1-2-3 in the 1600, John Smutny’s victory in shot put, Kaj Althaus and Vincent Olsen going 1-2 in pole vault, and Matthew Elms, Gauch, Ryan Wilkie and Brian Diefenbach winning in the 3200 relay.
Smutny continues to excel in the shot. He threw 51-08.5, winning the event by more than three feet. Nicholas Sawyer was fifth. Smutny was second in the discus (145-04). Sawyer was eighth.
Althaus won the pole vault by clearing 13-06. Olsen was second (12-06).
Gauche won the 400 in 50.61, beating the East Kentwood runner by .25 seconds. Skyler Bowden was sixth.
Kitto, Lamus and Praschan went 1-2-3 in the 1600 meters. Less than half a second separated the three runners.
Elms, Kitto and Lamus went 2-3-4 in the 800.
Kevin Hall was third in the 3,200 meters (9.45.60).
Gabe Becton (11.28) was fifth in the 100 dash. Tyler Palka was seventh (11.28).
Elems, Kitto, Gauche, and Lamus were second in the 4-by-400 relay (3:25.96). The relay team of Jesse Ouellete, Palka, Becton and David Alberdi finished third in the 4-by-100 relay. Ouellete, Palka, Gauche and Bowden were fourth in the 4-by-200.
