Ypsilanti Man Accused of Harassing Saline Family, Damaging Home and Resisting Arrest

The county prosecutor has authorized three complaints against a 23-year-old Ypsilanti man who allegedly harassed a Saline family, damaged their home, and tried to attack Saline Police officers who responded to the scene March 11.

At about 9:30 p.m., police were called to investigate a report of a man banging on the door of a house on Maplewood Drive. The suspect was a former co-worker of a woman living at the home.

As police arrived, the suspect was on the back porch banging on the door. According to the resident, the suspect was a former co-worker who had stopped showing up for work three weeks prior. Out of the blue, the woman received several texts from the man. The last text asked the woman if she still lived on Maplewood. A few minutes later, the suspect was yelling and pounding on the door.

The incident scared the children in the residence, residents told police. The husband later told police had been prepared to use a gun to protect his family.

When police approached the man, who they determined was intoxicated by alcohol, the suspect clenched his fist and tried to punch the officer. Police removed a knife from a pouch on the man and then cuffed the suspect. The man continued to try to kick the officers, according to the report.

The suspect apparently broke through the family’s screen on the back door.

The suspect was transported to hospital by Huron Valley Ambulance. In an interview he told police he wanted to talk to the woman at the home about the problems they have at work, but would not go into further detail about what he was trying to do at the house, according to the report.

Police told the suspect he should not have further contact with the family.

The prosecutor’s office has authorized a complaint of resisting arrest, malicious destruction of property, and attempted breaking and entry.
