Mayor's Race: Marl Calls for Public Forum, Law Says Anytime, Anywhere
Candidates vying to be Saline’s next Mayor are hoping to contrast their visions in a public forum or debate before the Nov. 6 election.
Tuesday, city council member Brian Marl released a statement saying he invited the opportunity to contrast the differences between he and his opponent, Glenn Law.
“I’m looking forward to getting into specifics of a vision for Saline’s future,” Marl said in the statement. “During the last four years of my time on City Council, I have engaged with community members in discussions about how the city should move forward, and I am hopeful that those conversations will continue into the coming months of the campaign.” Marl has outlined public safety, financial stewardship, openness in government, economic development and investment in infrastructure as his top priorities for the city.”
Reached by phone Tuesday, Law said he was eager to participate in a forum or debate.
“I’m willing to discuss and debate the issues with my opponent any time and any place,” Law said. “I welcome any opportunity to have the public hear our visions and see how different our visions are. This is the first time we have a mayoral election without an incumbent in years. So it’s important that we have at least one debate or forum.”
Law and Marl are the only candidates on the ballot for the Nov. 6 election. Longtime Mayor Gretchen Driskell, running as a Democratic candidate, is challenging Republican Mark Ouimet for his seat in the Michigan House.
Incumbents David Rhoads and Dean Girbach and former city finance director Lee Bourgoin are the three candidates for the three open city council positions.
