Saline High School has named Kyle Zagata as the new ice hockey coach.
Zagata comes to Saline from Livonia Stevenson, where he was an assistant for 12 years, helping the team win the state championship in 2013. Earlier this year he was named Assistant Coach of the Year by the Michigan High School Coaches Association after helping Stevenson to a 25-3-1 record
According to a press release from the Saline Athletic Department, Zagata has spent eight years as a head coach in the Michigan Developmental Hockey League and four years as an assistant coach with MAHA Team Michigan.
According to a staff profile page on EliteProspects.com, Zagata is a scout for the Aberdeen Wings of the North American Hockey League.
Last year, a very young Saline team advanced to the regional final and lost to Trenton. Zagata is looking forward to leading the Saline program.
“I am grateful for, and humbled by this opportunity to lead the Saline Hockey program into the future," Zagata stated in the press release. “I’m extremely eager to get to work with the players, families, and staff of Saline High School. There is a strong foundation here, and we are going to work relentlessly to build a program this community will be proud of."
Zagata replaces Paul Fassbender, who coached the Saline ice hockey team for four seasons. Fassbender left the Hornets to coach team in the Compuware program, according to Saline Athletic Director Andrew Parrish.
