Pittsfield Township Voters to Decide on 10-Year Parks Millage Renewal

 03/01/2016 - 00:43

Pittsfield Township will ask voters to consider renewing its current Park millage for another 10 years. The 2005-2015 millage was voted in at 0.5 and rolled back, due to a Headlee Rollback, to 0.4855. The renewal is being requested at the 0.4855 rate for the period 2016 to 2026.

Renewal of the Park millage will assist in acquiring park space, especially in regions that do not have access (northwest region) or very little access (northeast region) to parks in the township. Green space preservation, through conservation easement and other means, is another top priority for Pittsfield.

Pittsfield Township began establishing a robust non-motorized network in 2009. Having used nearly $5 million in federal, state and county funds to do so, the Park millage renewal will assist in further expanding this non-motorized (10’ greenways, sidewalks, bike lanes) network in order to provide better access to
parks and green spaces throughout Pittsfield while inter-connecting residential, commercial and entertainment/cultural spaces.

With input being processed from the 2020 Vision planning process, Pittsfield will likely look to prioritize improving park and senior amenities such as walking trails, senior fitness equipment, athletic fields, and picnic pavilions that will include providing for universal access.
