Saline Area Schools will likely hire David Raft as new principal of Saline High School.

After congratulatory messages to Raft were posted on Twitter, Saline Area Schools Superintendent Scot Graden told The Saline Post that nothing was official until approved by the Board of Education, which meets April 26.

Raft, Saline Middle School Principal, was one of three candidates interviewed by the community at a forum April 14. Also interviewed were Marie Schluter, Assistant Principal at Saline High School, and Brad Bezeau, Principal of Pleasant Ridge Elementary School.

Graden is expected to formally recommend the appointment of Raft at Tuesday's board meeting.

The district is seeking a replacement for Dr. Julie Helber, who is leaving the district to become Superintendent of Chelsea Public Schools.

Raft, a Saline native, has been principal at the middle school for seven years.  He taught marketing at Saline High School before becoming assistant principal at Heritage School. He then became principal of Harvest Elementary School before moving to Saline Middle School. His wife Trisha teaches kindergarten in the district. They have two daughters.
