Several students from the South and West Wasthenaw Consortium earned medals on Feb. 5 when nine students from the Culinary Arts program competed in regional competition at Oakland Community college.
Students were among 12 other schools to win Gold, Silver or a Bronze medal to qualify for State Competition at Grand Rapids Community College in April.
The SWWC students under the direction of Chef Sam Musto competed in Baking , Restaurant Service and Culinary Arts. The students won more medals than any other school in the region.
Saline High School's Madison Rishel (pictured above) won first place gold in culinary arts.
In commercial baking Saline's Katie Recknagel was fifth and Milan's Megan Harvey was third. Abigail Korzuk of Saline is also pictured.
In restaurant service Saline's Hunaan Ali won bronze. Dexter's Zenita Manlong won gold. Saline's Robert Braley placed fifth.
