The Saline girls’ track and field team clinched the 2013 SEC Red title by winning the SEC Conference meet at Skyline May 23.
The regional champs, who were undefeated in dual meets, sprinted away with the league meet with 219 points. No other school had more than 76 points.
Saline had winners all over the meet.
Thrower Randi Bennett was league champ in the discus and shot put. Bennett threw 109-07 to win the discus. Erin Connor was fourth and Amelia Wittig was fifth. In the shot put, Bennett threw 38 feet. Connor was fifth.
Junior Wendy Szuminski was first in the pole vault (10-07) and high jump (5-0). Jackie Marchildon and Lauren Sayre were tied for second in the high jump (4-10). Liz Gentile was fourth in pole vault (8-06). Marchildon was second in long jump (16-01).
On the track, Saline won three of four relays. Elianna Shwayder, Lauren Green, Abby Rentschler and Gloria Park won the 4-by-800 relay in 9:26.14. Autumn Godette, Natalie Wysocki, Quenee’ Dale and Alexa Ross won the 4-by-200 relay. Dale, Ross, Alana Hollis and Amanda Luurtsema won the 4-by-100 relay in 48.63. The 4-by-400 replay team of Ross, Wysocki, Godette and Hannah Cummings was second in 4:15.87.
Dale continued to master the 100 hurdles. She completed the race in 15.68 seconds to win. Wysocki was third and Samantha Dicks was fourth.
Regional champ Hannah Cummings repeated her success in the 800, defeating Huron’s Kennedy Beazley by less than half a second. Cummings won in 2:16.81. Lauren Green was third (2:22.14) and Kristin Green was fifth (2:27.76).
Senior Alexa Ross won the 200 in 26.55, edging Monroe’s Jasmine Mata by .06 seconds. Junior Olivia Roe was fourth in 27.42,
Dale was second in the 100 dash, finishing .01 seconds behind Monroe’s Jasmine Mata (12.75). Luurtsema was third and Hollis was sixth.
Junior Elianna Shwayder won the conference title in the 3200 meters race. She finished the run in 10:55.14. Abby Rentschler was second and regional champ Gillian Walter was third.
Senior Alyssa Cummings was second in the 1600 meters race (5:17.47). Haleigh Cummings was third and Gloria Park was sixth.
Wysocki, a senior, was second to Pioneer’s Chinonye Uche in the 300 Hurdles. Wysocki finished in 48.39. Dicks, also a senior, was third in 50.06.
