Four people were injured in a head-on crash involving two vehicles on an icy U.S. 12 Saturday morning.

The Saline Area Fire Department was dispatched to Michigan Avenue and Feldkamp Road at 8:02 a.m.

Firefighters used hydraulic rescue tools to free one person, who was transported to hospital in critical condition. Three others were transported to hospital.

The crash shut down Michigan Avenue at Austin Road for two hours.

Fire Chief Craig Hoeft said U.S. 12 was extremely icy Saturday morning as 2-3 inches of snow fell on the area. At 6 a.m., firefighters were dispatched to a crash at Michigan Avenue and Schill Road.

Earlier in the week, when the season’s first major snowfall dumped seven inches of snow on the area, Saline Area Fire Department responded to seven crashes. None, however, were as serious as Saturday’s crash at Michigan Avenue and Feldkamp.
