Truck Driver Found Dead at Faurecia

A 47-year-old truck driver from Detroit was found dead at Faurecia Jan. 15. Police were called to the facility at 12:30 a.m. by plant security. A Faurecia official found Atab Abbas Al-Ghanem sitting upright but slumped over on a larder step between a truck and trailer and was unable to find a pulse. Faurecia medical team members attempted to do CPR. He was pronounced dead on the scene when Huron Valley Ambulance officials arrived.

Police found no signs of foul play.

The truck checked in at Saline at 9;18 p.m. Medical Examiner Jennifer Van Alsburg estimated Al-Ghanem was dead for two hours, according to the report. The Medical Examiner was to schedule an autopsy to determine a cause of death, according to the report.

 

Ypsilanti Man Stopped by Police Had Stolen Liquor in His Coat

A 59-year-old Ypsilanti man arrested by Pittsfield Police during a traffic stop Jan. 7 was carrying two stolen bottles of Crown Royal in his coat, according to a Saline Police Report. There were five other bottles of liquor in the man’s vehicle. The CVS manager reviewed surveillance video showed the man entering the store at 7:19 p.m. and leaving at 7:21 p.m. The tape showed the suspect tripped the anti-theft alarm as he walked out the door.

Charges are pending prosecutorial review.

Rash of Property Damage Jan. 18-19

Vandals struck Saline sometime overnight Jan. 18-19.

A 29-year-old Clark Street woman told police that someone damaged her Chevy Malibu sometime overnight Jan. 18-19. The front side passenger tire was flat and a nail was wedged between the tire and rim

A 55-year-old McKay Street woman reported the mailbox was knocked of its post. A gold gazing ball with a tall ceramic stand was found smashed near the mailbox.

Police Believe Man Overdosed on Heroin

Saline Police investigated what they suspect was a heroin overdose at a Hawthorne Way address.

Police, fire and ambulance arrived at the home Jan. 22 shortly after midnight and found an unconscious 24-year-old man.

Police recovered a metal teaspoon and two orange caps from a syringe. According to the report, as the man became alert, he told police he used heroin. He was transported to St. Joseph Hospital in Ann Arbor. Another 24-year-old man at the address was arrested on an outstanding warrant.

Police had been at the same address Jan. 14 to investigate a fight.

Saline Man Arrested for Driving While High

Saline Police arrested a 20-year-old Saline man on suspicion of operating while under the influence of drugs. 

Just after midnight Jan. 18, Saline Police stopped a speeding vehicle that touched the center line twice on Maple Road.

The driver told police he smoked a “bowl” about 45 minutes prior to being pulled over. Police arrested the driver after conducting field sobriety tests. Charges are pending the results of a blood test.

Clarinet Missing

The family of a Saline Middle School student contacted police to report that a rented clarinet had been stolen. An 11-year-old left the instrument and case in the cafeteria Jan. 18. It was gone when the student returned the next day. The instrument was not turned into the school.
