Saline Police are warning local merchants to be on the lookout for a woman who asked to a phone before taking a bag full of cash from a hair salon.

Last Thursday at about 4 p.m., a woman entered a West Michigan Avenue hair salon and asked to use the phone. An employee agreed. When the employee turned her back, the woman snatched money that was sitting in a bag on the counter, according to Sgt. Jay Basso.

The woman was described as approximately 40-years-old, white, 5’4 and 135 pounds, Basso said. She was well dressed with collar-length black hair. She drove an older white Ford Taurus or Mercury Sable, according to Basso.

On Tuesday, Basso walked around downtown talking with local business owners. He learned another business owner recalled a woman matching the description asking to use the phone and thought the woman was acting strange.

“Nothing was taken, but the experience was suspicious enough that it stuck in their memory,” Basso said. “It’s something businesses should be aware of.”

Basso said anyone who spots the woman should call Saline Police at 429-7911.
