Acoustic Routes will end its 61-concert run at Mangiamo Italian Grill on Saturday, Feb. 4 at 8 p.m. with a double shot of the blues: Ann Arbor-based music legends Shari Kane & Dave Steele will be joined by Louisiana-native Eleanor Ellis, an award-winning guitarist helping to preserve the roots music of Mississippi Delta and Piedmont regions.
Shari & Dave call their music “street swing and stomp blues” for the way Dave's smoky vocals, percussive rhythm and innovative lead lines mesh with Shari’s crisp picking, rootsy leads and stinging slide work. Eleanor Ellis credits her musical reach to such greats as Memphis Minnie, Skip James and other early recording artists. The cover charge is $15 at the door (100% to the artists). The full Mangiamo dinner and bar menu is available. Reservations are requested: 734-429-0060.
As reported last week, property owners Pete and Laurie Toarmina are selling the historic, landmark building they restored on Michigan Ave. and retiring at the end of February. Acoustic Routes will take up residence at Saline’s Stony Lake Brewing Co. in March.
“Pete and Laurie have been great friends and generous hosts for Acoustic Routes since our first gig in 2013,” said Jim Cain, founder of the concert series. “I can't thank them enough for making so much great music possible in our town. The local buzz about Acoustic Routes has grown with every show, and the enthusiastic audiences supporting us have put Saline on the map with musicians from all over the country, and as far away as Canada and the UK.”
Among the artists who have performed are Grammy-winners Al Petteway and Peter Madcat Ruth; North Sea Gas of Edinburgh, Scotland; Bloodshot Records recording artist Luke Winslow-King of New Orleans; A Prairie Home Companion alum Dakota Dave Hull from the Twin Cities; and acclaimed New York-based singer-songwriter Clarence Bucaro.
Artists with Saline ties include Sunday Truce, featuring Jake Enos, Brayden Dana and Scott Moore; Noelle Caprarese; Scott Kendall of Bill Bynum & Co.; Sarah Price; Tim Monger; Cora Hassberger; The Ten Tones; Hornet Harmonies; Mary Johnson; Ed Young and Nucleus; and Allocoustic, featuring Noah Wright, Ethan Rogers and Evan Rogers.
