The News & Antiques is closing its doors in downtown Saline.

Owned by Donna and Lisa Southwick, the antiques market and gallery opened at 106 W. Michigan Ave. in 2016.

The business had closed in May to paint the walls and varnish the floors. During the downtime, ownership realized they wanted to close the store. The store will close in mid July.

The Southwicks also announced that Rock Paper Scissors, a card and gift shop located on Main Street in Ann Arbor, will move in Aug. 1 and open at a later date. The company is moving its headquarters and operations for its product line to the new space, according to owner Lisa Roberts. Midwest Supply Co. is moving from Ann Arbor to Saline. Rock Paper Scissors will have a shop in front of the operation.

Lisa and Kenneth Roberts live in Saline and have children in the district.

"As a Saline local, with kids in the Saline school district, being a part of the special Saline downtown landscape is something I'm really excited about," Roberts said.

106 W. Michigan Ave. was home to the Saline Reporter for decades. The name of the Southwick's business paid homage to the history of the building.

(This article was modified to include additional information about the Rock Scissors Paper business and to correct a mistated fact. Rock Paper Scissors no longer has a location in Tecumseh.)
