Join us tonight as we present TerHaar and the Grand Opening Ceremony for this year’s German cultural event and local heritage celebration!
We are thrilled to announce this year’s Saline Oktoberfest Festmeisterin, Linda TerHaar! Our beloved event leader is someone who is incredibly special to folks from here to Germany – and it is our supreme honor to present her tonight at the Tapping of the Golden Keg.
TerHaar has served on Saline’s City Council since October 2010. She departs from her post as Mayor Pro Tem at the end of this year leaving behind a vibrant legacy of integrity and upright governance. As tonight’s head frau, Linda is sure to bring much sincerity and authenticity to the locals’ shared Prost! for the entire weekend and harvest season ahead.
Saline’s annual Oktoberfest event celebrates our relationship with sister city Lindenberg, Germany – offering a nod to the historic 16-day harvest celebration held in Munich each year. TerHaar and her husband, Bruce Westlake have long had the reputation for inspiring efforts to preserve our region’s local German heritage. Linda has been deeply involved with the Saline Lindenberg Friendship Committee since 2003, serving on the Board of Directors since 2009. The Committee helps to build a strong relationship between the cities of Saline and Lindenberg, Allgäu, Germany – guided by the mission to establish long-lasting connections with the citizens of our sister European city.
On a personal note, Linda and Bruce have hosted German guests during official visits to Saline, and have likewise traveled with the Saline group to Lindenberg on each and every trip. In fact, Lindenberg is always a favorite place of theirs whenever they go to Europe. And, both Linda and Bruce have key roles in the German American Partnership Program at Saline High School, planning activities and hosting teachers and students from Germany for biennial education and cultural exchange.
It is an honor and a privilege to present Linda TerHaar as the 2019 Oktoberfest Festmeisterin! Join us Friday night (tonight!), September 20, 2019 at 6:30 for the Tapping of the Golden Keg | Oktoberfest Opening Ceremony in the Bier Garten on S Ann Arbor Street in Downtown Saline.
