Saline resident Shawn Andrew Macomber, 43, was killed in a crash Sunday evening in Augusta Township.

Macomber was driving on Willis Road, east of Stony Creek Road, when his vehicle struck a tree.

Washtenaw County Sherriff’s Office deputies arrived on the scene at approximately 5:50 p.m. to find the vehicle on fire and the driver pinned in the vehicle. Deputies attempted to extinguish the flames but were unsuccessful, according to the WCSO.

Macomber’s two children, ages 3 and 7, were in the vehicle and were rescued from the backseat by a citizen who was driving by, according to the WCSO.

Macomber was pronounced dead at the scene.  His children were transported to hospital with injuries that were not considered life-threatening, according to the WCSO.

Police aren’t sure why the vehicle left the road. An investigation is ongoing.

Macomber grew up in Saline and attended Saline Area Schools.
