32-year-old Desten Houge, of Ypsilanti, was killed in a head-on collision on Michigan Avenue Saturday evening.
Hogue was driving east on Michigan Avenue when he crossed center and struck a west-bound vehicle driven by a 55-year-old Pittsfield Township woman, according to an Mlive story which has since been moved. According to Huron Valley Ambulance spokesperson Matt Rose, one patient was transported to hospital in critical condition. Mlive reported police do not believe her injuries are life threatening.
The crash occurred around 5:20 p.m. a couple hundred yards west of the Pittsfield Township Department of Public Safety. Michigan Avenue was closed between Warner and Platt roads until about 9:30 p.m. According to the Mlive report, Houge was not wearing a safety belt at the time of the crash. Mlive also reported police do not suspect alcohol, drugs as potential factors in the collision.
Houge’s uncle, Lester Houge, said his nephew was on his way home after a shift at the Faurecia plant in Saline. Houge confirmed that only minutes prior to the fatal crash, Desten Houge went off the road on Michigan Avenue and had to have his vehicle towed back on to the road.
“Naturally, we are wondering if OK to drive after going off the road,” Lester Houge said.
The family hopes to learn more when Pittsfield Township police release the crash report.
Houge was a father to two children.
