Saline Middle School Students Win American & Me Essay Contest

Angie Ling, Josie Sullivan and Lillian Cutler were the local winners of the 49th annual America & Me Essay Contest, sponsored by Farm Bureau Insurance.

The three Saline Middle School students received award certificates for their achievement.

Ling placed first and will have her name engraved on a plaque that is on permanent display at Saline Middle School. Sullivan placed second and Cutler was third.

Long's first place essay will now be entered in the state competition where the top 10 winners will be announced. Each winner will receive a plaque, a medallion and a cash award of $1,000. Each of the top 10 essayists will also be honored at a banquet in Lansing, meet with Michigan's top government leaders and be featured guests at a Lansing Lugnuts minor league baseball game dedicated in their honor.

Several thousand eighth grade students from over 350 Michigan schools participated in the 2017-18 America & Me Essay Contest. The topic for essays this year was "My Personal Michigan Hero."

The contest was launched in 1968 and is open to all Michigan eighth grade students.
