Saline junior Alex Morrison is greeted at home plate by teammates after his two-run home run in the first inning of Wednesday's scrimmage against Blissfield.

The Saline varsity baseball team hosted the Blissfield Royals for a scrimmage on a gusty and sunny Wednesday afternoon at Saline High School Wednesday.

The Hornets are led this year by head coach Al Zeiher. A Saline alumni, Zeiher returned to Saline to teach science at the high school. He begins his first season as head coach this spring.

Lance Blaszak started on the mound for Saline, giving up an unearned run in three innings of work. CF Alex Morrison gave Saline a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning with a long, high flyball over the fence in left-centerfield.

With the wind blowing hard, both teams struggled in the field at times.

Saline hosts Fenton for a doubleheader April 4. The opening game begins at 4 p.m.
