Huron outscored Saline 19-7 in the fourth quarter to hand the Hornets their second loss of the season, 60-56, at Saline High School Tuesday.
Three three-pointers by Liz Sekerak in the third quarter and then a basket early in the fourth by Natalie Sweetland gave Saline what seemed like a solid, 51-41, lead.
But the River Rats responded with a 10-point run in the next four minutes, tying the game. Ella Stemmer put the Hornets back in front with a layup but Siena Smith hit a three-pointer to give Huron the lead.
Amera Boyd put Saline up 55-54, with 55 seconds left when she drove to the hoop and made her layup while taking a hand to the face. She made the free throw, too. That was the last time Saline would have the lead as Reeya Patel and Jadyn Smith both made baskets from the free throw line down the stretch to put the game away for Saline.
Stemmer led the Hornets with 18 points, two rebounds and two assists. 13 of Stemmer's points came during the first quarter, when Saline took a 23-19 lead. Sekerak scored nine points and also did a good job keeping Patel in check. Bentley scored eight points and eight seven rebounds and four blocks. Sweetland (seven points, six rebounds), Sophie Canen (six points, six rebounds), Boyd (four points, two rebounds) and Emily Wilcynszki (four points) also tallied for Saline.
The Hornets, 10-2 overall and 2-2 in the SEC Red, visit Skyline Friday.
