GRAND RAPIDS -- Freshman Griffin Clark scored twice as Saline defeated East Grand Rapids, 6-1, to improve to 3-1-1 on the season.
Logan Dejanovich opened the scoring early in the first with Gordie Niethammer assisting. With four minutes remaining in the period, Niethammer set up Connor Wright to make it 2-0. Saline went up 3-0 on the powerplay with 50 seconds left in the first period when Collin Clark scored from Nick Miller and Mason Ausmus. The Hornets outshot their opponents 18-8 in the first period.
Ausmus took a pass from Dejanovich and scored to make it 4-0 with 12:30 to play in the second period. 90 seconds later, Collin Clark set up his brother Griffin to make it 5-0. East Grand Rapids got on the scoreboard late in the second period.
In the third period, Clark scored a powerplay goal from Lucas Evans and Miller.
Griffin Granica picked up the win in goal, turning aside 22 of 23 shots.
Saline hosts Skyline Tuesday at the Ann Arbor Ice Cube. Face-off is at 7:30 p.m.
