Saline baseball coach Scott Theisen hands the state championship trophy to Ryan Foley and the team.

Little leaguers from Saline are invited to come meet the state champion baseball team from Saline High School at Dan’s Downtown Tavern Aug. 1.

Dan Kolander and his staff will serve the state champions a free meal from 6 to 7 p.m. At 7 p.m., young Hornet fans can ask the Hornets to autograph their bats, gloves or a poster that’s being made for the occasion.

Throughout the state tournament, right up until the state championship game, you could hear the little leaguers in the stands singing the “We Are The Hornets” chant.

“Oh, we heard them,” Theisen said after winning the state championship. “It was great to get that kind of support from the kids and their, parents, and the whole community really.

Theisen said Kolander’s offer to make meals for the team was generous.

“You’re talking about 25 people, meals and service. He didn’t want anything in return,” Theisen said.

It was Theisen who suggested the piece about the little leaguers.

“I just wanted to make this an event for the community. They were an important part of our success,” Theisen said.
