Loftus Tied or First, Saline 3rd on Day 1 of Girls Golf State Championship

Saline junior Catherine Loftus is one of three players tied for first after one round of the MHSAA Division 1 girls golf finals at Forest Akers in East Lansing.

Loftus was -1 on the front nine and +1 on the plus nine as she shot an even-par 72. Loftus is atop the leaderboard with Traverse City West’s Anika Dy and Bloomhield Hills’ Mikeala Schultz.

Loftus’s helped the Saline golf team to third place on day one at the state finals. Saline has a score of 322, 12 back of Rochester and one back of Bloomfield Hills.

Juniors Sydney Page and Stephanie Schick both turned in scores of 81 (+9). Molly Pribble shot 83. Margaret Wood scored 87.

Lotus eagled the par-four seventh hole and then birdied the par-three eighth on the front nine. On the back nine she birdied the par-five 15th. Page birdied the 12th and 15th on the back nine. Both are par-five holes.

Action resumes at 10 a.m. Saturday. Loftus will golf with Livonia Stevenson’s Anna Vento and Rochester’s Veronica Haque.
