Anthony DeKraker ran the race in a career-best 15:59.2 - breaking the 16 minute barrier for the first time in his career.

The Saline boys’ varsity cross country team settled for third place at the season’s first SEC Jamboree, held Tuesday at Hudson Mills Metropark.

Ann Arbor Pioneer won the 12-team jamboree with 37 points. Chelsea was second with 63 points. Saline finished with 72 points.

Pioneer’s Nick Foster won the event in 15:19.7 and the Pioneers put five runners in the top 12.

Saline’s fastest runner was senior Anthony DeKraker, who was fifth in a fast race. He finished in a career-best 15:59.2. Junior Jevin Nishioka was nine in 16:17.3 seconds. Also figuring into the scoring were junior Simon Pfeiffer (15th, 16:30.2), senior Joshua Cook (20th, 16:49), senior Aidan Delfuoco (23rd, 16:50.9) and junior Will Downey (34th, 17:03).

Pfeiffer’s time was also a personal best.

Ann Arbor was ranked first and Saline third in the recent Division 1 rankings, so the results weren’t out of the blue. Chelsea was ranked second in the Division 2 rankings.

Saline won the junior varsity race with 51 points. Evan Bleitz was the fastest Hornet, taking fourth in 17:39. Samuel Chen, Christofer Clisham, Ethan Smith and Johnathan Speers also finished in the scoring five for Saline.
