Robert M. Harrison, age 86, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 22, 2014 at the St. Joseph Mercy Hospital.
He was born October 31, 1927 in Queensborough, NY, the son of Robert M. and Doris O. (Milner) Harrison. In 1949 at St. Paul United Church of Christ in Saline, he married Violet Finkbeiner and she survives. Robert Harrison was a resident of Saline since 1942; graduate of Saline High School and Cleary College; WWII era veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps 1945-1948; Saline American Legion Post #322; former Saline Tax Assessor & Building Official; Saline Representative on County Board of Supervisors 1961-1968 (Chairman in 1968); and Washtenaw County Clerk - Register 1968-1990.
He held leadership roles in numerous civic, charitable and fraternal organizations. Survivors in addition to his wife Violet include their children Robert (Linda) Harrison III, Lizabeth (Barry) Dettling, and Pamela (Eric) Jaeger. Other survivors include a brother, John (Mary) Harrison, sister Esther Long, and a brother Stanley (Claudia) Harrison, grandchildren Amber Harrison, Austen (Rachael) Dettling, Grahm Dettling, Jessica Myers, Hans Jaeger, Melissa Jaeger, and two great-grandchildren. Bob was preceded in death by his sister Mary Harrison.
Funeral Services will take place on Saturday, July 26, 2014 at the St. Paul United Church of Christ in Saline, MI, with Rev. Wallace Tatara officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Paul Memorial Fund or to the Saline Area Historical Society for the purpose of the Rentschler Farm. Envelopes will be available at the Robison-Bahnmiller Funeral Home in Saline, where friends may begin calling on Friday, July 25, 2014 between the hours of 4:00 P.M. and 8:00 P.M. and at the church on Saturday, July 26, 2014 from 12:00 Noon until the time of service at 1:00 P.M.
